P1(d) Set Designs

Meaning: Set design is the creation of theatrical, as well as film or television scenery.

Purpose: In this section, I am going to show more details of how my short video is going to be, in terms of camera positions, lighting, use of natural light.

CAMERA POSITION 

There are a lot of different shots and camera angle in the world of media, however, I am going to use just one camera angle and shot in the whole video. 

As I mentioned earlier in the Treatment, I would like to use the skill of one of the small clip I have found in the internet. 

These are screenshot of the video I would like to study, "The most shocking a day", we can see that from the screenshots the camera angle is always the same, which the main character occupies the most space in the frame, and they are all in medium or medium close-ups, which allow us to see the person's action and face expression, their clothing and surrounding from the background, for example the first screenshot we can see a cake, the girl and her family, which gives the audiences that the little girl was celebrating her birthday with her beloved ones. 

I would like to apply this style to my short video, because I think this skill is very effective as it is easy for the audiences to understand the situation and to make the audiences fit their shoes into the girl's position, how she feels and what she sees. 

LIGHTING 

For the lighting, I am just going to use natural lighting, which means without any help of Lighting equipment, I am just going to use the light rays of the sun when I am filming outdoor scenes, and use the lights in the room for indoors, for example I could use a lamp to make the scene brighter for easier observe. 

I have decided to use natural lighting because this short film also records the daily, I don't want to use lighting equipment to set the light for each scene, it will make the video look very unnatural. Also, sunlight will make the scene looks warmer, especially I want to show how the girl was naive and happy at the beginning, this could show the changes of the girl from the start and the ending, so audiences could compare her changes. 

NATURAL LIGHTING 

Natural lighting is simply the light from the sun- natural sunlight, which I determined to use in my project. 

I found these pictures from the websites, these are examples of Natural lighting, we can see from these pictures the effect of Natural lighting makes the picture looks very warm, rich in colour, and beautiful, which always create a good scene. Also, we can create a different mood, such as a happy or sad mood. 

I have drawn some set designs my own, showing how I set my camera in different location and how would the actors stand. Also showing the source of the lighting, for example natural lighting from the window, outdoors, or light indoors from light bulbs.
