P3(a) Logging Rushes and Creating Edit Decision List

P3(a) Logging Rushes and Creating Edit Decision List

Meaning: Logging rushes and creating edit decision list is the preparing procedure of a media project, which means how the project is being organised, such as shot list.

Purpose: The purpose for this section is to show how I organise my project from the beginning and the reason of each step.

For this project I have chose Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 to edit my videos because it is very useful, it has got all the effects I need and a big working area for me to add layers to the video. It has also got some nice colour editing too so the video looks more interesting and comfortable for the audience to watch it.

Aspect Ratio

The meaning of aspect ratio is the ratio of the width or the length of an image or screen.
(Resource: https://www.google.co.uk/#safe=strict&q=aspect+ratio)

Here above is an example of the aspect ratio. As we can see, there is different size of displays and they are for different uses, for example computer displays or cinema film. It is very important to get the aspect ratio setting right for my advert at the beginning of the edit, because it affects how the screen look, and and how clear it is. For example, if we use the Computer Displays, which is the first one as the aspect ratio for my advert, it will be too small for it, and black bars at the bottom or above will appear, which is not very nice, or it might be too small so some part of the video has to be cropped out, which means I have less space to edit and make changes on.

To be more organised, I have created a folder just to put all my work from Pages, for example my Risk Assessment, my equipment grids and my production schedules, so that in case there's anything to change, I could easily take them out again and edit them.

I also created another folder to put all my raw material and clips into it, so that I could simply choose this folder while importing videos into Adobe Premium Pro.

I also renamed all the clips by the content, it is very useful to do so, so that I could edit the short video easily just to look at the names and organise them, however, if I didn't rename them, they will be just named by numbers and will be very confusing as I don't know what the clip is about, also will take longer time to edit the video as I have to watch the video a few more time.

To avoid this from happening, I have to pay more attention to the aspect ratio setting before I start editing my project.

It is very important to set up the project properly, because this affects the quality of the video and the size of the frame after exporting the finished video. I have put the setting to HDV, so it is in the highest quality, and to be very clear for the audiences to watch.

Before starting editing the video, I have to import the videos, photos and effects to the app, so that I could start working with them. First I go to "File" > "Import"> and the file I need.

After importing the videos into Adobe Premium Pro, all my clips will be found in this column, and then I can start editing simply dragging the video into the editing column.

This is the editing block, where I drag my original clips into these bars. It is very useful because there are many video and audio columns, that allow me to edit it with more columns and create overlapping and allow me to edit it more smoothly. Also, I could press the "vision" button at the side, which allows me to close the vision of the clips of that column, this is also very useful as I could watch the video with more options, same for the audio.
